They Saw It Coming:

The Green Goblin (Spider-Man 2002 Film)

Today is another post in the “They Saw It Coming” series, and this time, it’s about Norman Osborne. The Green Goblin. Specifically, his 2002 movie incarnation as played by Willem Dafoe.

I already did a post on the old Sam Raimi Spider-Man movie a while back, but now I’ll focus on the climax and the final battle.

So, to recap, Norman went nuts, became the Goblin, Threatened Aunt May into praying, and threw MJ off a bridge.

I was fine with it back then, but now I admit, I feel like yelling “Go Go Goblin Rangers!”
Aunt May in her natural state of nearly dying.
2002 MJ, also in her natural state of nearly dying

That web-headed menace Spider-Man managed to stop him with the help of the entirety of New York (that doesn’t happen very often), but the Goblin doesn’t let that stop him. He’s got his own web line, and he uses it to yeet our hero right off to the final battle.

It goes well.

Ow.

Shut up! How would any of you fair against the evil goblin in Power Ranger Armour? He’s even green! That’s a powerful colour. The important thing is, that Spider-Man is only mostly dead, which is still partly alive and that’s all he needs to make a comeback. Well, that and the Goblin threatening to kill MJ.

Bitch, what did you say?

Yes. Never make Spider-Man angry. When he stops joking, villains start hurting.

Not so fun now, is it?

But before our hero can land that telltale killing blow (or if he would have done that), he discovers the truth. The Green Goblin is Norman Osborne. The father of his best friend Harry. This brings us to our final moments.

Yeah. That’s it for him. I always liked the quiet little “oh” he gives. He knows he messed up that he’s going to pay for it, and that there’s not a thing he can do to stop it. So yeah, Norman definitely saw his death coming because he directly caused it to happen by trying one last backstab.

Let this be a lesson to all of you. If you’re trying to kill Spider-Man, next time, use poison.

….Or just don’t try and kill Spider-Man. It seems like way too much trouble.
